Swans and Geese

Mute Swan - Cygnus olor
The Mute Swan is a regular visitor to Tucklesholme, usually seen in large groups up and down the river Trent, or seen on the surrounding fields.

Greylag Goose - Anser anser
The Greylag Goose is is not an uncommon visitor to Tucklesholme, Greylag Geese can be seen either flying over in flock of about 20 or 30 birds, or sometimes seen is smaller groups just stoping off on one of the two pits.

Canada Goose - Branta canadensis
The Canada Goose is one of the most common of species of Goose on the site, there is always a group of about 50 birds which feed on the Derbyshire side of the river Trent.

Shelduck - Tadorna tadorna
The Shelduck isn't an uncommon bird at Tucklesholme and neighbouring sites like Branston where Shelduck is a regular site. In the spring and summer of 2016 we had about two to three pairs of Shelducks which some successfully breed with about 5 or 6 chicks.

Egyptian Goose - Alopochen aegyptiaca
The Egyptian Goose isn't a regular bird on the site, but can be seen often at Branston so it wouldn't be usual for one to turn up at Tucklesholme. A pair were seen on the 6/3/2016 on the main pit. Another pair were reported on the 18/5/2016, but I probably suspect that it was the same pair of birds. We also had two birds present on the 19/8/16. A pair were present on the 13/4/17 with five chicks (J.P M.P).
