2017 - The year so far

January: The first visit of the year was on the seventh produced; Mute Swan, Stonechat (6), Wren, Pied Wagtail, Teal (44), Wigeon (4), Gadwall (9), Mallard, Grey Heron, Meadow Pipit, Reed Bunting (3), Moorhen, Song Thrush, Cormorant, Buzzard, Kestrel, Magpie, Fieldfare, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Long Tailed Tit, Sparrowhawk, Pheasant, Black Headed Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Woodpigeon, Dunnock, Robin, Redwing, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Treecreeper (heard), Jackdaw, Crow and Chaffinch. The 28/1/17 produce a hunting Merlin which was attacking the Lapwing flock, the same day also produced the first Little Egret, Raven, Goosander and a Staring Murmuration.

February: This month was a gap in my own notes but there were reports of Great White Egret the first Green Sandpiper and Kingfisher on the 8/2/17. The first Oystercatchers were seen on the 17/2/17. The Great White Egret was seen another two times off site at Barton North Pit.

March: This month produced the first Chiffchaff (3) and a Temminck's Stint which was with a Group of 4 Ringed Plovers, to add four Yellowhammers were also seen. The 15th Produced the first Stock Dove of the year. The 18th produced a Peregrine, Redshank, Kingfisher, Mistle Thrush and three Little Ringed Plovers. Two Little Egrets were seen on the 24/3/17. The first Sand Martin was seen on the 25/3/17 also two White Wagtails.

April: A singing male Blackcap was seen on the 02/04 and was joined by an increase numbers of Sand Martin. First Swallow on the 11th April. A pair of Egyptian Geese with five chicks seen on pool opposite the second pit on the 13th. Six Little Ringed Plovers still present also two Little Egrets. The 15th produced the first House Martins, Willow Warbler and Common Whitethroat. On the 16th the Temminck's Stint was seen again on the main pit also a Wheatear and the Whitethroat was still present (M.Y). Temminck's Stint still present and a Green Sandpiper was also seen on the 17th (J.P M.P). The Temminck's Stint was still present up until the 18th and wasn't relocated after this date. On the 20th it looked like the Little Ringed Plovers have departed also two Green Sandpipers were present. Grasshopper Warbler on the 30/4/17.

May: Great White Egret flying over the main pit and two Common Terns flying down the Trent a first for the year.
